More Bug Week Activities

Paper mache spiders

Ashley brought in her bug house from home and caught two moths on our playground! She named them Lucky and Butternut.

We made dirt pudding with gummy worms after a discussion on worms!

We used giant fly swatters to create uniquely textured large paintings. The finished pieces are on display in the Art Room and main school-age hallway.

When Bugs Attack!

We're learning all about creepy, crawly bugs for our second week of Summer Fun Club! We started out the week with a big thunderstorm on Monday morning. The sky darkened quickly as we came in from the playground, which led to great conversations about weather.

The afternoon cleared up beautifully, so the teachers set up sprinklers on the lawn for an impromptu splash day!

Afterwards, everyone had an ice cream or popsicle leftover from our first Ice Cream Friday! A big thank you to Nathan P's mom for bringing in the ice cream!!

On Tuesday, we created "bugs on a leash." The kids made their own bugs (imaginary or true-to-life), then brought them to a teacher to put their "leash" of yarn on their new pet bug!

Koda's caterpillar

Zoe and Ashley B turned Chris into their life-size bug on a leash!

Halle brought in a green butterfly she caught at home to show the rest of the group! She created a habitat for it in a jar and poked holes in the top. Kids and teachers alike were curious to see her usual butterfly.

More from Art Week

The kids produced so much amazing art during Art Week! Here are a few more pieces we created throughout the week.

Found Art Collage (4-7 grade)

Shiny Paint (condensed milk with food coloring and water)

 Shaving Cream Art

Ice Tunnel Art - We watched pieces of salt melt tunnels into the ice, then filled the tunnels with food coloring to see how far the salt had cut into the ice

Our finished pottery pieces from the field trip!

Pottery Studio Field Trip

On Tuesday, the Summer Fun Club went on our first field trip to a pottery studio called Your Creative Escape in Eaton Rapids! Each child was able to choose a ceramic piece to paint, using special kiln-activated glaze. The most popular choices for painting were cupcake-shaped and football-shaped containers!

After we painted our pottery pieces, we played on the wooden structured playground at W. Scott Munn Riverwalk Park next door to the studio. It was a beautiful day to play with friends! Before heading back to Weymouth, we ate  lunch at the park.

Walker's Smiley Face

Walker was the second to reach the smiley face for good behavior on his behavior strip! This means that he made good choices and was on his best behavior for at least 5 days in a row! All of the teachers at Weymouth are so proud of him for this accomplishment. For his reward, he chose to bring in the movie Daddy Day Camp to share with the rest of the group. He is now working toward his second smiley :)
