All About Me Artwork

In the past few weeks, all of the children from the before and after school programs have created "All About Me" artwork, which is now being displayed in Weymouth's main hallway. The kids answered the questions: 

• What's your name? 
• How old are you? 
• What's your favorite food? 
• What's your favorite color? 
• What do you like to do for fun? 
• What do you want to be when you grow up?

Then, Ms. Alison and Abby took individual pictures of each person, asking them to pose however they liked. We ended up with a collection of pictures ranging from silly to serious, outgoing to shy. Finally, all of the kids painted a picture to express themselves through art. All of the school-age teachers worked together to compile the final product: a gallery as unique as the kids in our program! Check out our display below and stop in to see it in person!

Our New Garden

Although we've gone back to school after spring break, there is still a lot of spring fun going on in our school-age room before and after school! We've been continuing work on our garden, which is located by the blue picnic tables in the back corner of our playground. Once we finish digging out the grass to ready our garden, we'll be planting sunflowers, lettuce, tomatoes, green beans, and many other crops. As spring and summer progress, we'll watch our garden grow!

Happy Spring Break!

We finished our spring wall, adding painted lady bugs and a whole garden of flowers made from recycled materials! We were so excited with the finished wall that we posed for pictures with fun spring-related props in front of it! 

We've been having lots of fun gardening, swimming and reading Mr. Popper's Penguins this week as we enjoy some time off from school.

Spring Wall Collaboration

The before and after school programs have been working together to contribute to a wall dedicated to celebrating spring! To start our wall, Ms. Ariel, Ms. Alison and Wendy worked together to cover a section of the school-age hallway with blue bulletin board paper. The following day, Wendy painted the grass and Ms. Alison painted a tree. The after school kids made butterflies by painting with watercolors on coffee filters, then tied a pipe cleaner in the center to create the body and antennae. The butterflies turned out beautiful and have come to life, strung up with yarn to fly through the sky of our wall scene. We will be adding more to it in the next few days. New Lead Teacher   

• My name is Alison Tuma and I am so excited to start as CPS Childcare’s new lead school-age teacher today - Monday, March 19^th!
• A little about me: I grew up in Charlotte and have worked in the school-age program as an assistant teacher here each summer since 2008. I recently graduated from Central Michigan University with a BS in Elementary Education. I am now certified to teach students K-8, specializing in language arts and history. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy traveling, creating art, reading and cooking.
• I absolutely love working with children and have many new ideas to incorporate into the school-age program. In addition to what has previously been offered, I’m planning to provide more age-appropriate experiences for children in upper elementary and middle school grades, to challenge them and keep them engaged. Our summer fun club will feature new field trips, more community involvement, weekly polls, and spirit days, where groups will compete to show the most theme-related enthusiasm!
